Established in 1974, W. R. Newman & Associates, Inc. is a design-build general contractor/construction management firm located in Nashville, Tennessee. Licensed in 48 states, we provide preconstruction and construction services for a broad range of projects, including medical facilities, commercial retail, office, industrial, warehouse/distribution, and assisted living housing. From ground up to renovation projects, the company has the knowledge and experience necessary to successfully complete your project. Four decades of repeat clients can attest to our successful track record of quality workmanship, cost savings, timely completion, and safety.

Our History
OVER 40 YEARS IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
William Randall Newman founded the company in the early 1970s in rural Lebanon, Tennessee, 30 miles east of Nashville. As a general contractor, he had a reputation of being honest, fair, and loyal to his clients. His commitment to these values enabled the company to prosper.
1970’S
In 1978, W. R. Newman & Associates, Inc. became a Tennessee corporation.
1990’S
In 1990, Patrick J. Donlon and Thomas G. Pappas, Jr. became employees of W. R. Newman & Associates, Inc. and eventually acquired ownership. In 1994, the company moved to its current location in Nashville, Tennessee. In this same year, we constructed our first out of state Tractor Supply Company (TSC) ground up retail store. TSC is the largest operator of rural lifestyle retail stores in the United States. A few years later, W.R. Newman became a recipient of the “Building Design Award” presented by American Buildings Company for construction of Electric Picture Company, Nashville, TN. In 1997, we constructed our first out of state Dialysis Clinic facility for Dialysis Clinic, Inc. (DCI) a nonprofit medical corporation providing dialysis, care, and research for patients with kidney disease at premier facilities throughout the United States.
2000’S
In 2004, W.R. Newman was awarded “Contractor Who Presented The Best Idea” by Tractor Supply Company. In 2005, we were awarded “Best Retrofit General Contractor” by Tractor Supply Company as well as “Best Price-Value” (Lewisburg, TN), “Best Quality Prototype” (Dawsonville, GA), “Fastest Prototype” (Kingsport, TN), and “Best Quality Retrofit” (Lewisburg, TN).
2010’S
We continue to partner with Tractor Supply Company and Dialysis Clinic, Inc. and have constructed over 580 Tractor Supply stores and 125 Dialysis Clinic facilities. In addition, we completed multiple sites for McDonald’s and Firestone Complete Auto Care stores all across the United States. In October of 2017, after 27 years of service, Pat Donlon retired as President of the company. Tom Pappas was named Chief Executive Officer and Lee Thomas was named President.
2020’S
We continue our relationship with Tractor Supply Company, Dialysis Clinic, McDonald’s and Firestone. We began construction on an apartment complex in Cupertino, CA and have recently broke ground for the Kirkland Place apartment complex located in Clarksville, TN. The newest multi-family community consisting of 11 residential buildings housing 264 spacious units, 7 garage buildings encompass 88 private units. The Clubhouse is an elegant, aesthetically pleasing, communal space with a saltwater pool.

W. R. Newman & Associates, Inc. is licensed to provide commercial construction services in 48 states. The integrity of our leadership, reputation, commitment and values on which the company was founded have remained steadfast through the years.
